China the most mystifying and misunderstood giant nation shows the way.

It seems incredible but past Presidents and Prime Ministers of China are accorded public respect and dignified place in the once in 5 years most important gathering of Communist Party of China. The political hierarchy is maintained and well reverred.

There is only one Political Party in China. However, there are several very powerful factions within that single Party. And what is amazing is that past Presidents and Premiers from different factions still have political say and are still respected. They are still influential and important part of Chinese leadership. Quite unlike many political system in other Countries.

It was a lesson in the art of dignified politics as President Xi Jinping entered the great hall followed by two past Presidents and other Party stalwarts.

I am not really bothered about other giant nations. However, I hope in Bhutan in the not too distant future, we too learn to accommodate political leaders of different political parties. A Political Party in reign need not have to assault the other Parties especially the leaders. After all we are all Bhutanese and all are expected to work in the national interest.

  1. Sirjee,
Dont praise China too much, India will feel nervous. You join politics, become Prime Minister and do what is good for Bhutan.
We need a balanced relationship between and .

    1. You need a relation first, before you can balance...

  2. In the eye of unbiased beholder: the democracy was once upon a time a very good form of government, but not any more, because there are unselfish leaders. Firstly power craving politicians will not hesitate to do anything to get elected. Secondly after election campaign instead of healing the campaign wounds and reuniting the country they take great pleasure and effort to assault the leader of the losser and ignore the welfare of the opposition supporters. Frankly speaking our democracy is building on bias concept and cultivating hatred in the mind of the people. The politicians and their workers are creating fears and division among the people, even in the families. Isn't that the sign that Bhutan is not ready for democracy. The politicians boast of GNH values but they try to achieve material happiness. The influencing the mass killing of animals in our country to make big profit is the clear sign.I cannot imagine to be happy and prosperous on the coast of others life. The politicians needs lesson on the Buddhist teaching. Good news is that Tangu and Taktse college will come up with some ideas to educate our politicians.

  3. Two of the greatest statesmen that I can think of are President Xi Jinping of China and President Vladamir Putin of Russia. In spite of the hostilities from USA backed by its puppet states such as European countries, Australia, Japan, Korea and now India, these two leaders showed utmost patience and maturity in dealing with the aggressors.

Much of the hostility toward Putin stems from the fact that he not only defies the West, when standing up for Russia’s interests, he often succeeds in his defiance and goes unpunished and unrepentant.

Under President Xi Jinping, China is marching towards becoming the world's powerful country (both economically and militarily). This has unnerved America and her puppet states so much so that they are desperately working towards containing China.
Good thing about all these is Russia and China has developed good relation. Russia has the weapons and China has the money. Together they can fight American aggression and prevent more destruction of countries around the world by USA led NATO.

  4. China has six peaceful transition of power in a row now with the latest being Xi following the tenure of Hu. But it wasn't so just a few decades ago. During Mao's time pretty much all of Mao's successors died a premature death. One was disgraced and struggled against during the Cultural Revolution and died with negligence in prison. One, a designated successor by Mao himself, died in a getaway plane crash in Mongolia when his plane ran out of fuel/shot down by a missile depending on what stories you believe after a failed coup attempt against Mao. Deng himself was disgraced four times until he was rehabilitated one last time and succeed Mao's another designated successor, someone who was pretty much a nobody until he was suddenly elevated to succeed Mao based solely on Mao's reputed verdict on him that 'with him in charge he[Mao] will be at ease'.

China is on the right track for the past few decades and I hope the peaceful transition of power will continue.
