DNT Party is playing the Indian card of destabilising the Bhutanese nation.

Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa has regretfully become an alien party with dubious design. At a time when the nation is placed in a precarious position by India, DNT is seemingly playing a role of a Dirty National Traitor Party. It is  distracting the attention of the nation from a national crisis precipitated by external forces. In so doing, the DNT is sabotaging national efforts to protect our sovereignty.

Why did  DNT choose this very crucial national agony time to attack the Government in reign? The Government of Bhutan and the nation is under great stress by the attacks on national sovereignty by India.

Indian troops are occupying our territory at Doklam.

India has declared that Bhutan is her " Protectorate state ".

India has rubbished the true essence of the revised 2007  Bhutan- India Treaty of 1949. Indian aggression and especially the misconstruction of the essence and true  understanding of the revised Treaty terms has not just transgressed upon our national sovereignty but has insulted our great Kings who negotiated and signed the revised 2007 Treaty with India.  And worse,  Japan a deemed friend of Bhutan and second largest donor to Bhutanese development activities has joined rank with India and has publicly come out in support of Indian effort to dilute Bhutanese sovereignty. Bhutan is isolated.

The revised 2007 Treaty  had totally freed Bhutan from Indian dominance and abolished any past British Raj colonial shreds that infringed upon Bhutanese self will.  However this time at Doklam, India has declared that this very revised Treaty as a " Sell out to India " Treaty to suit her hegemonic ambition.  India has misconstructed the true meaning and understanding of Clause 2 of the revised Treaty.

The clause 2 of the revised 2007 Treaty  specifically declared that neither country will allow on their soil activities harmful to the other. And this time at Doklam what did India do? India sent troops into Bhutanese and Chinese territory and militarily bullied us and sabotaged Sino- Bhutan Border Talks.  And  their official Agencies and media outlets engaged in relentless campaign of propaganda to convince the world that  Bhutan is a protectorate state of India.  And to add insult to injury, India shamelessly tells the world that this very clause 2 provides for her aggression against Bhutan.

India has used all the strong arm tactics and superior media and diplomatic clouts at her disposal to achieve her objective. The world accepts what the powerful and the influential dictates. And India, Japan, America trios are powerful and influential.  Do Bhutanese Political Parties care even a little for our Nation?

Bhutan has been humiliated, our land encroached upon and the dignity of our deeply respected Kings guttered.

The revised Treaty of 2007 further abolished the clause in the 1949 Treaty that required Indian guidance for Bhutanese external affairs. Further it also abolished the clause that required India to pay yearly to Bhutan a cash annuity for the Duars annexed by British India.  The 1949 Treaty was  a copycat of Singchula Treaty between Bhutan and British Raj of India,  Bhutan had signed this Treaty in duress with a superior armed British India.

Against such a back drop of national crisis, what did Bhutanese Political Parties do to defend the dignity of the nation and the Kings and our very cherished sovereignty?  Nothing. Not a word has been spoken by any damned Political Parties of Bhutan. What fine sleazy excuse did some people make? They said something like,  Oh! Leave it to the wise leadership of the King and the Government.

Don't Bhutanese Political Parties think that His Majesty the King needs public support. We are living in a wide open world. Even the wisest and the most able leaders be it the Prime Minister or the King need public expression of support in a democratic world.  All political parties in  India are backing their Government. The world watches while the Bhutanese Political Parties particularly DNT engages in back stabbing the nation.

DNT has declared that it has the support of all Political Parties and goodwill of Bhutanese media in its campaign against the Bhutanese Government. This is likely to be an act of  treason. And I hope the relevant authority in this case the Judiciary of Bhutan does not shy away from its constitutional duty. The High Court must nib the bud immediately before this blatant anti- nation pro India disrupting move gathers force.

DNT declaration says, " Nation First ". Let me ask which Nation?  Bhutan or India?

DNT says , " almost pinching on the legal Sovereignty of our Nation ". Let me ask " What kind of politics is this"? Who is pinching whom?

And let me bare the truth. The sovereignty of Bhutan was not "almost pinched", it was punched at Doklam. What did any Political Party say or do? All self-serving jackals parading in self esteem and shamelessly engaged in enacting Indian political drama at the High Court.

All innocent members of  DNT Party and responsible true Bhutanese citizens should get together and close down this Indian Front of a Political Party which is jeopardising the sovereignty of Bhutan.

  1. According to Japanese report (in japans language, jiji.com, and It is easy to read for Chinese), official statement in Japan embassy in India denys that Japan supports the Indian position on Doklam.

    The following is true:

Ambassador Hiramatsu told The Indian Express: “We understand that the standoff in the Doklam area has been ongoing for nearly two months…What is important in disputed areas is that all parties involved do not resort to unilateral attempts to change the status quo by force (but) resolve the dispute in a peaceful manner.”

    No anymore, thus,

Bhutan should ask Japan embassy in India and confirm the Japans’ position.

    1. So anonymous you are a Chinese? You say that Chinese can easily read what Japanese report says. The concern is of Bhutanese not that of Chinese. If it is true then it is for Japanese Embassy to clarify to the Indian Press who is supposed to have got it wrong. And also inform the Bhutanese Embassy the correct official position of Japan.

    3. Mr. Sangey, you are doing a wonderful and brave job for Bhutan! Thank you! As to the Japanese envoy to India making comments, I would not pay much attention to it. First of all, India has been desperately looking for support and the report was probably a misinterpretation of the actual language spoken by the Japanese envoy. I saw some reports about the Japanese Embassy's correction, but I did not bother to verify it. That was because of the following second reason: Japan itself is not a normal country. It is a militarily occupied country by the United States under the structure placed there as a result of the World War II. By the way China was supposed to be a part of the occupying forces also but it did not send troops due to a civil war at the time. Japan does not have full independence or the right to full independence when it comes to foreign policy. That's why what Japan says in the world usually does not get much attention, because everyone is looking at whether Japan's boss, the U.S., is going to nod its head, or slap Japan on its face. The additional reason is that in the past several years Japan has been led by a right wing government who is characterized by denying wrong doings in the World War II, being nostalgic about their fascist and aggressive past, being hysterical about China's rise, and constantly trying to trick the United States into direct military conflict with China. There were a couple of years Shinzo Albe, the Japanese Prime Minister, was a clown following every step of the Chinese leader at the time, to sabotage Chinese relation with every country, only to stop when he realized it was totally useless. The right wing Japanese government has been the flag bearer to drum up the China Threat theory. So it will be strange if Japan does not take advantage of this situation. In my opinion, India and Japan are a very good pair, one self deceiving and the other hysterical, they deserve each other. What you are doing is admirable. Reveal the truth and keep the Bhutanese people informed. Remember, in 1962, India had much stronger and explicit support from the entire west, as well as the Soviet Union, something that never happened before and after, and will never happen again.

    4. Dear Wangcha Sangey,

      The report in japan:

      https://www.jiji.com/jc/article?k=2017081800895&g=pol

      I use translator:

【New Delhi current affairs】 India and China overturned the disputed area Dokram (Chinese name · Dong-uro) highland in India and China over a period of about two months, and some Indian media on 18th, Indian Ambassador to Japan of Kirishima Hiramatsu will visit the Japanese government Reportedly expressed his support for India. However, the embassy in Japan denied the content of the press. It seems to be said that a strong expectation for Japan deepening its cooperative relationship with China appeared in the press.

China state-run news agency, India in Yu = border confrontation "seven deadly sins"

Dokram Highland is a disputed area between China and Bhutan, and India, which is closely related to Bhutan, is dispatching troops. Ambassador Hiramatsu, Times of India newspapers, acknowledged the Dokram Highlands as "a part of Bhutan" and reported that Japan supported India's position.
Meanwhile, the Embassy of Japan informed that the ambassador Hiramatsu stated that it is important to not "do unilaterally change the status quo by force" in response to the interview of Indian media, the contents of the report of "support India" Denied. (2017/08/18 - 19: 41) Related news

    5. @Wangcha, this is a different Anonymous.:-) I agree with your view. The right wing Japanese government talks from both side of mouth, and a US puppet. According to some Indian commentators, India wants to be to US as Japan to US, so it is not a surprise that the two flock together.

There are two reasons (I am sure your know) that Indian moved into DongLang, One is keep Bhutan in line, the other to please Trump that of all people in the world, India is the only one (not Japanese, not even US itself) that will contain China for him.

I also agree with you that your country need to make noise on sovereignty issue laud and fast. With India army on your soil uninvited, if it starts something "unexpected" in the middle of winter, Even if Chinese want to help, it will be very hard to do...
I hope you much success, maybe start your own party, and stay safe.

    6. It seems that Japanese Embassy did clarify it. But Indian Press did get it wrong. The best way is that Bhutan should talk with Japan.

    7. I am a Chinese. Chinese people can read written Japanese to a certain extent because written Japanese contain Chinese characters as part of the language. But no, Chinese cannot easily read what the Japanese report says but can only guess and have some idea what the Japanese report says because written Japanese also uses Japanese alphabet as part of their language. I went to the site and got lost pretty fast even though I have some idea of what the text is about.

But he is right. According to the Chinese source the Japanese media agency said the Japanese ambassador "opposes the unilateral changes of status quo by force" when he was interviewed by the Indian media but that does not mean the Japanese government "support India" on this Doklam matter.

  2. Japan is first and foremost a murkkan puppet doing Washington's bidding.

Since pro Chinese Pm were ousted by soft coup from Washington, [sounds familiar ?] Japan has been provoking China in the ECS and Sino./Jp relation nose dived.

For the past decades Tokyo has been stalking , subverting Chinese investments, undermining Chinese influence in Asia, Africa, etc, usually in tandem with Delhi, another murkkan cat paw.
A recent example was the Delhi/Tokyo's joint effort to sabotage Chinese port investments in Bangladesh etc.

Japan even participated in the murkkan/Indian joint exercise in Malabar to re-hearse a blockade of Malacca Straits, China's economic life line !

Tokyo's keen interest in the South Asia caucas , SAARC, especially in Nepal, Bhutan etc is part and parcel of the 'Asic pivot' to encircle China.

I wouldnt be surprised Japan's apparent support to India was goaded by Washington.

I've no doubt India's provocation at the border was orchestrated from Washington just like 1962. uncle sham's feigned aloofness from the whole fracas isnt fooling anyone, at least not me !

  3. Thank you Wangcha sir for coming up with this meaning full post. I also felt that DNT should have refrained from taking Government to the court when we have many other issues to solve. I am an apolitical person and going by the activities of DNT, they meant no service to the country by filing a case. The present government is new with all the cabinet ministers coming from an ordinary posts before their ministership, yet they are working hard to keep Bhutan in a same level than letting it down. The DNT by this act seems very selfish. They would have impressed the voters by refraining from their current act.

  4. Washington has been organising a covert/overt world wide campaign to sabotage China's foreign investments and subvert its foreign relations.

The EU [sic], SK , jP had no interest in South Asia , why did they fell over themselves to join SAARC, the South Asia caucus right after China was admitted as observer ?

'The US’s interest in the matter is particularly significant not merely because it came rather abruptly but, specifically, since it was timed just a month after the SAARC decision in Dhaka on China’s association with the organization. That it was followed almost on its heels by South Korea is also revealing in its own way, as is that of the EU which broadly shares the American worldview. Japan, of course, had already been granted a similar status within SAARC simultaneously with China.'

    http://bit.ly/2wn6otM

Is Japan's 'friendship' with Nepal, Bhutan etc genuine or is it just a ploy to undermine China ?

Once we see through the fog, Japan's 'betrayal' of Bhutan become easy to understand.

  6. A view from Nepal,

' as India’s closest neighbor with much of history and culture in common, it should be our duty to remind her that she has much more to worry about in her own country and therefore, must not be wasting her valuable time, energy and resources worrying about Nepal.

With China closing in real fast,Nepal’s future is now better assured for the first time in decades.

The transition that is taking place now in Nepal is that it is trying to break free of India’s stranglehold and emerge as the buffer economy between two giants, China and India, with the prospect of economic growth of a vastly different order.'

  10. In the revised treaty of 1949 in 2007, a history has been erased that Bhutan will no longer have historical claims over duars areas in West Bengal and Assam and hence will not receive land tax from India that was introduced since when India was under British rule.

In return, Bhutan does not have to seek India’s approval in establishing diplomatic relationship with any countries and can seek foreign policies without India’s permission.

Now it has been ten years, India still sticks to the mentality of 1949 treaty and forbids Bhutan to establish diplomatic relations and pursue its free foreign policies.

On our side, our leaders and government despite accepting forgoing duars areas and land taxes from it, failed to implement the revised treaty as agreed for our national interests.

  11. I remember reading the transcript of an interview of Brezinski, the late National Security Advisor to President Jimmy Carter and probably one of the two most respected political scientists (along with Henry Kessinger) in the United States, in which he was describing the world geopolitical reality. He said the world we lived in had three wolves, and in their eyes the other countries were sheep. That was and still is the geopolitical reality. If sheep are to choose side they have to choose the right one. You wonder why the U.K. always followed the path of the United States but now is hesitating? India used to be spoiled and loved by all the wolves because of its non allied movement which made all the wolves think it harmless. I think India's move at Doklam (or Donglang in Chinese) is its worst strategic mistake. Now that India's choice is clear, the wolves' approaches will be different also. At this time, now, it is critical for small countries to think big and make the right choice, or to not make any choices at all. This goes for big but weak countries also. For years India benefited from making no choices. With a statement at Donglang, history is being rewritten. Modi betrayed India's long time ally, one of the three wolves, and paid $20 billion protection fee to another wolf in the form of weapons purchase. He thought with that he had enough to challenge the third wolf. When he was not getting enough support from the new boss he went back to beg the support of India's original wolf ally. How stupid? He thinks wolves are to be manipulated by sheep? That only exists in fantasies. Japan tried several years to trick the United States into direct military conflict with China, with no success. Some people came up with an analogy to describe that as tail trying to wag the dog. You think a dog will allow its tail to wag itself, instead of itself waging the tail? Keep up your effort, Mr. Sangey! Provide the perspective Bhutanese people need at this critical time. If India embarks on a self-destructive path, Bhutan needs to concentrate and make sure she does not follow. Wolves have different tempers. Some favor a swift and direct bite, be it on the butt or on the throat, some are more gentle and delicate but can be more lethal, only wait for the throat.

  12. Bhutan will not be alone.

    http://www.myrepublica.com/news/26186/

There was a gathering in Nepal who ranged from foreign policy practitioners, journalists, retired bureaucrats, ex-army officials to a former head of national intelligence

If we don’t speak up for Bhutan today, someone asked, who will speak up for us when Nepal finds itself in a similar situation tomorrow, say over Kalapani?

All in all, there was a lot of sympathy for Bhutan, which, against its wishes, is being made a playground for big-power rivalry.

  15. Just because of the standoff between China and India in the Doklam plateau doesn't mean that we should stop going about our lives. The harsh reality is that Bhutan really does not wield any power to do anything to influence what is happening in Doklam. The only thing we can do is voice our concerns on the issue and hope that China and India respect our views.

So putting any blame at the door steps of the DNT is amateurish at best.

Now people will buy anything if it makes them feel special or get more power. PDP mouthpiece with broken english...
